Microtia offers several reconstruction options:
1. Combined reconstruction - two corrections performed during one operation:
Reconstructing of the pinna by using cartilage harvested from the patient's own ribs. Reconstruction of the outer ear canal and the middle ear combined with the pinna operation, performed according to the CT imaging results. 2. Synthetic graft implanted under the skin - This option can be utilized whenever there is a deficiency in rib cartilage tissue due to previously failed operations. Several materials can be used for this purpose.
3. Pinna prosthesis - Usually this option is reserved for cases which have a difficult scar tissue with interrupted blood supply, or for cases where there is a contraindication to performing a surgery under general anesthesia.
